The writer puts forward three methods to control the further spread of New Guinea flatworm. However, the professor demonstrates that none of the methods turns out to be successful.
First, as for the biological control, the professor contradicts the reading material. On the one hand, the New Guinea flatworm has no predator in its habitat. On the other hand, the local predators in Europe, like birds or reptiles, would not eat the flatworm because its meat tastes sour and unpleasant.
Second, the professor illustrates that the chemical control mentioned in the reading is ineffective. It is because that the New Guinea flatworm is resistant to most of pesticides. What’ more, the flatworm would be killed by one type of pesticide, lindane, which is very toxic for other species. So...

A response at this level successfully selects the important information from the lecture and coherently and accurately presents this information in relation to the relevant information presented in the reading. The response is well organized, and occasional language errors that are present do not result in inaccurate or imprecise presentation of content or connections.
1.selects the important information from the lecture and coherently and accurately presents this information in relation to the relevant information presented in the reading
2.well organized
3.occasional language errors
要点 1:selects the important information from the lecture and coherently and accurately presents this information in relation to the relevant information presented in the reading.
形象地说,如果阅读里的要点是A,B,C三个,听力所对应的则应该是A-(A否),B-(B否),C-(C否)。
2:well organized
3:occasional language errors

In our country there has always been a spirit of volunteerism. As children, we are taught that helping those less fortunate is our responsibility. But unfortunately, the growing prosperity of the nation has placed an emphasis on materialism and individual success, creating a generation of youth that do not understand the meaning of being selfless. I believe young people today are not as charitable as previous generations of young people.
The main reasons I am so skeptical of the inclination of today’s youth to help people is that they are spoiled. I remember when I was young and using a computer at the public library was a privilege. When my parents bought me my own computer when I went to university, I understood how much they sacrificed to give me that as a present. Nowadays, children see expensive computers, like the iPad and iPhone, as a necessity, not a privilege. They receive all these kinds of gifts without comprehending how much their parents sacrifice to give them the very best in the latest technology. They do not know what it is to be without. I believe this has created a genera...
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Television has destroyed communication among friends and family. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.
The Effects of Television on Communication
There is no doubt that television has greatly changed people's lives. After its invention, it became an almost indispensable part of most households within the space of just a few years. Nowadays, many families have two or even three television sets so that every member of the family can watch what he wants whenever he wants. In my opinion, this has significantly reduced the amount of time that family and friends spend communicating with each other.
Before the invention of television, people spent their leisure time in more active and social pursuits. They often played cards or other games, listened to the radio together or went out to see friends. But now television is widely available and it offers a variety of program choices that appeal to almost every interest. People no longer have to look to others for entertainment. Also, television can be like a sedative. Studies have shown that watching a great deal of televisi...

Some people prefer to live in a small town. Others prefer to live in a big city. Which place would you prefer to live in? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.
The Advantages of City Life
There are undeniable advantages to both life in a big city and in a small town. The former offers more excitement and convenience while the latter offers a cleaner, quieter and often friendlier place to live. However, despite the advantages of small town life, I prefer to live in a big city for several reasons.
First, life in the city is more convenient. More goods are available and stores are open later. Also, there is better public transportation so it is easier to get around. I can find almost anything I want easily in the city. Second, there are more ways to spend leisure time in the city. There are many places I can go to meet friends and have fun. Finally, and most importantly, the city offers more educational and career opportunities. The city often attracts the best teachers and the best companies. There is also a wider choice of jobs so it is easier to move up the career ladder.
For all of these reasons, I prefer to ...

Most advertisements make products much better than they really are.
I strongly agree to the statement that most advertisements makes the products presented much better than they really are, and points below supports my idea.
An essential reason concerns the nature of advertising – advertisers, in most cases, would only make products seem better than they really are, not the other way around. Since the ultimate aim of advertising is to persuade people into buying something, and people would natually be attracted by something that is desirable rather than repellent, advertisements are certainly made to display a more attractive image of products. Therefore, customers would first be graviated towards the virtual product that is somewhat dishonestly pictured by advertisers, then desire to own it, and eventually purchase it. In this way, the desire of consumers is satisfied, the purpose of production achieved, and the advertising process completed.
But the norm that a “good” product is advertised as a “better” one is often challenged or even reversed – that is, unscrupulous businessmen make use of advertising to sell inferior products, which raises a moral question. For examp...

How do movies or television influence people's behavior? Use reasons and specific examples to support your answer.
The Influence of Television and Movies
There is no doubt that watching television and movies can influence the way that people behave. Moreover, it seems that people are spending more and more time watching some sort of visual entertainment, whether it is television, a video tape or a DVD. Therefore, the effects of visual media cannot be ignored.
One obvious effect of these media is that watching them induces people to buy certain products. Television advertising is widespread and, nowadays, even movie theaters permit advertisements. Another way TV and the movies affect people is that they give people either a broader view of the world or a distorted one, depending on what type of program they watch. Those who watch news and educational program can learn many new things while those who watch primarily entertainment shows may come to believe that most people in the world possess great wealth and good looks. It may make them become dissatisfied with their own lives. Finally, perhaps the most susceptible viewers are chi...

In science, a theory is a reasonable explanation of observed events that are related. A theory often involves an imaginary model that helps scientists picture the way an observed event could be produced. A good example of this is found in the kinetic molecular theory, in which gases are pictured as being made up of many small particles that are in constant motion.
A useful theory, in addition to explaining past observations, helps to predict events that have not as yet been observed. After a theory has been publicized, scientists design experiments to test the theory. If observations confirm the scientist’s predictions, the theory is supported. If observations do not confirm the predictions, the scientists must search further. There may be a fault in the experiment, or the theory may have to be revised or rejected.
Science involves imagination and creative thinking as well as collecting information and performing experiments. Facts by themselves are not science. As the mathematician Jules Henri Poincare said, “Science is built with facts just as a house is built with bricks, but a collection of facts cannot be called science any more t...

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The food we eat today is much healthier than in the past.(我们现在吃的食物比过去更健康。)
范文:
Back in the days, the world suffered from instances of food-related issues such as shortage, sanitation, and nutritional content. Today, with the numerous advances in related fields of technology, most if not all, of these problems are just a memory of the past. Many claim, in particular, that the foods we consume today are of a much higher quality, thereby making them healthier to eat. But is this certainly the case? I don’t think so.
The last time I checked, there were lots of fast food chains sprawling in our cities and even in some suburban areas. In these places are common sights of obese children and other unhealthy-looking consumers. It does not stop here. The situation gets worse. Remember the time that the price of staple food like rice was sky-high because of limited supply? Well, that’s not the case now. However, there were news reports showing that most of these food supplies, though plentiful, lack the necessary nutritional content. Certain varieties were even proven to be harmful instead. Does the term Genetically Modified Organisms...
