如果一个ISSUE题目拿到手里之后，你感觉到自己的思路受到了限制一对于这个题目好像只能赞同或者反对，那么这个题目本身的设计就是失败的。好的题目就是提出一个问题，这个问题能够给人留下充分的空间展幵分析。同学们应该明白，天下所有的所谓的真理，包括各式各样的“主义"、学说、假说、定律，其实都是有待于不断证伪的，因而不存在 绝对的真理。它们在一定的条件下是具有解释力的，但不是永恒的真理。
所以，对所有的题目，我们都可以有条件地同时支持和反对，从而两面兼顾，从两方面同时展开分析。这样写的好处是：
■两面兼顾，本身即是看到了问题的复杂性(complexities)，这是比较理想的写作思路 (关于ETS对GRE作文所定的评分标准及其提供的ISSUE范文，请参见本书附录7 )
■两面写，左右逢源，文章容易展开，有助于解决文章篇幅不足的问题
■两面写的文章结构极好控制，若再配合恰当的论证方法，则行文思路清晰，结构一目了然
■文章紧紧围绕着题目展开，思路集中，不易跑题(对于这一点，部分同学可能不以为然：这种小儿科的错误，怎么会在GRE考生中出现呢?但如果考生对题目的中心观点、分析的侧重点的把握出现了偏差，就会在不知不觉中离题万里。笔者所批改的学生作文中，少部分同学的确如此。1 更重要的是，这次GRE作文改革之后，从两方面写ISSUE作文的思路几乎是必需的。这个必要性主要表现在每道ISSUE题目的写作指引(instructions )里面
假设正文部分有三个意群段(注意：不必是三个自然段。有关意群段和自然段的区别与作 用，在第三章中有详细的讲解)，两面写文章的常见结构包括：
■正、反、合(即支持、反对、然后再将前面正、反两方面的分析综合阐述)
■正、反、反(即支持、反对、再反对)
■正、反、散(即支持、反对、然后从一个更深更广的角度将对问题的阐述加以发散) 关于"正、反、合”，“正、反、反”和“正、反、散”的应用，在随后对具体题目的讲解 过程中，大家自然会理解。
以上这三种结构就能解决所有ISSUE题目的结构(或者说思路)问题。当然，你也可以 采用其他结构，比如“正、正、反”，“正、正、散”，“反、反、散”，“正、正、正(完全同意)”，“反、反、反(完全反对)”等，这取决于每个人对题目的理解。但一方面，掌握了上面 三个分析思路，其余的分析思路自然水到渠成;另一方面，大家会发现可以“一边倒"写支持 或反对的题目为数不多，而不可以两面写的题目却很少，或者基本没有。

因果类题目
这类题目通常提出或者蕴含了某种因果关系。
因果类题目的常见形式是“Because A, B"这样的句式结构。或者，题目中虽没有明显的 这种结构，但可以明确判断出题目实际上是列出了一组因果关系。
例如下面这三道题：
1. The human mind will always be superior to machines because machines are only tools of human minds.
2. Many important discoveries or creations are accidental: it is usually while seeking the answer to one question that we come across the answer to another.
3. Claim: We can usually learn much more from people whose views we share than from those whose views contradict our own.
Reason: Disagreement can cause stress and inhibit learning.
这道题前后两个判断由连词 because连接，说明后者是前者的原因。 这是显而易见的因果类题目。
