Good preparation for staff appraisals can pay dividends in terms of staff loyalty and satisfaction.Many managers, particularly those running smaller companies, feel they are too busy to give their employees appraisals, and many staff clearly dread them. Problems in the IT industry
In the information technology industry, it is widely acknowledged that how well IT departments of the future can fulfil their business goals will depend not on the regular updating of technology, which is essential for them to do, but on how well they can hold on to the people skilled at manipulating the newest technology. This is becoming more difficult. Best estimates of the current shortfall in IT staff in the UK are between 30,000 and 50,000, and growing.
And there is no end to the problem in sight. A severe industry-wide lack of investment in training means the long-term skills base is both ageing and shrinking. Employers are chasing experienced staff in ever-decreasing circles, and, according to a recent government report, 250,000 new IT jobs will be created over the next decade.
Most employers are confining themselves to dealing with the immediate problems. There is little evidence, for example, that they are stepping up their intake of raw recruits for in-house training, or retraining existing staff from other functions. The Stars of the Future
A Existing management research does not tell us much about how to find and develop high-flyers, those people who have the potential to reach the top of an organisation. As a result, organisations are left to formulate their own systems. A more effective overall policy for developing future leaders is needed, which is why the London Business School has launched the Tomorrow's Leaders Research Group (TLRG). The group contains representatives from 20 firms, and meets regularly to discuss the leadership development of the organisations' high-flyers.
B TLRG recognises just how significant line managers are in the process of leadership development. Unfortunately, with today's flat organisations, where managers have functional as well as managerial responsibilities, people development all too often falls victim to heavy workloads. One manager in the research group was unconvinced by the logic of sending his best people away on development courses, 'only to see them poached by another department or, worse still, another firm'. 剑桥商务英语考试：提前熟悉商务环境的途径
BEC剑桥商务英语考试是剑桥系列考试中专为学习者提供的国际商务英语资格证书考试，主要考察真实工作环境中的英语交流能力，被欧洲乃至全球众多教育机构、企业认可。越来越多的公司使用BEC来评估雇员、员工和应聘者的语言技能。其中包括全球着名企业如IBM、Citibank、国际卫生组织、世界银行、摩托罗拉、联合国、可口可乐、西门子等。

这部分对我国考生而言有很高的难度，因为它考查了中国人说话写文章最缺少严密的逻辑性。西文，尤其是商务文章极其讲究逻辑的缜密性，中心思想明确，意群(段)之间有清晰的逻辑关系，句与句之间紧密相连。知道了这样的思维差异，在解题时便有了方向：通过各种衔接手段来解题。词汇的衔接、语法的衔接，最重要的是逻辑上的衔接。其实，任何两句话之间的逻辑关系不外乎两种情况：不是顺着意思讲下去(顺接)就是意思发生了转折(逆接)。判断空格前后句之间的顺逆接关系，再寻找正确的选项解题就容易多了。平时考生在做阅读训练的时候要特别注意句子之间的逻辑关系。
